Afternoon Tea @ Whatley Manor

This weekend Dan treated me to an amazing afternoon "in the country"! We headed out of Bristol on Saturday and went for a mooch around Tetbury, where we bought some amazing cheese (houseofcheese.co.uk) and a gift for our friends baby from a lovely little toy shop called Henrietta's House (henriettashouse.co.uk).

Then it was on to Whatley Manor near Malmesbury (whatleymanor.com) for a surprise afternoon tea. The drawing room was so cosy with a big fire roaring and lots of comfy sofas and armchairs. We made ourselves cosy, chatted and read the weekend papers whilst sipping Early Grey. Then the afternoon tea itself arrived. Anything that arrives on a cake stand gets my vote but this just looked amazing!!! The sandwiches were: smoked salmon and cucumber, egg and cress, ham with a hint of mustard and cheese and relish. Then on the next stand there was traditional scones, jam and clotted cream (cream tea) and banana bread, and the top tier held a selection of delicious smaller cakes (I forget the detail)! But I do remember that it was all absolutely delicious and homemade. I had such a lovely afternoon with amazing food, company and surroundings.

We couldn't finish all our cake so they kindly boxed it for us to take-away. And afterwards we went for a stroll around the beautiful grounds. What a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
